May 2009 For us, the listing of our house was the culmination of a year's worth of effort in preparing our house to be sold. Our biggest problem of course, was that we watch all the reality shows that show you how to prepare a house to sell it. Not being young and strong, but middle-aged and lazy, we spread all the work out over a year. And so, after de-cluttering, de-personalizing, painting, updating, upgrading, cleaning and cleaning and more cleaning, we called on our friend JoAnn Visa to help us sell our house. JoAnn immediately put us at ease and somehow made a very stressful experience fun. The stager JoAnn uses helped us further by suggesting some small changes to each room, which had some really dramatic effects. We listed in mid-February, in the dead of a winter that produced sometimes two snowstorms a week. We fully expected, and were prepared for the sale to take several months, as was the case with some of our neighbours. But due to JoAnn's amazing marketing skills, after about a dozen showings, and four short weeks, we got an offer, and it was quickly and satisfactorily negotiated upwards to 98% of our asking price. JoAnn also helped us find a new house, and we spent nearly every weekend together looking at houses while ours was on the market. She patiently accepted all of our (sometimes) irrational criticisms of some houses. And, when we found the house of our dreams, not once, but three times, she patiently helped us weigh the pros and cons, until we were finally ready to make an offer. We withdrew it the next day, and went back to the second house that we'd fallen in love with. We'd like to say that JoAnn is a consummate professional, and a ruthless sales person who has only the best interests of her clients at heart. She is also a very lovely person, and a good friend.
